What were you doing on Saturday February 25th? Whatever it was I bet it was not as cool as the Downtown Jackson, Kids’ Mardi Gras Parade and Block Party! That was the place to be if you wanted to celebrate Mardi Gras in Jackson Tennessee.
The Baker’s Rack kicked off the morning with a pancake breakfast at 8:30. It cost $6 for adults and $3 for children. It was definitely worth getting up early on a Saturday morning.
Every year the Mardi Gras Parade and Block Party goes on downtown. This year’s theme was “The Magic of Childhood.” Children and parents made exciting and creative floats and costumes. At 10:30 a non-motorized parade started on Lafayette Street and traveled South on Church then West on Baltimore, North on Liberty and then circled back around to Lafayette Street. Even if families did not make an elaborate float, everyone was encouraged to walk the parade with their wagons or strollers. Beads were handed out left and right for anyone who attended.
If you did not get the chance to watch the parade or participate, don’t worry you have a whole year to prepare.
