Almost everyone has seen at least one classic Disney movie, and everyone has their personal favorite.  The classic Disney movies made millions of dollars upon their release from the 1990s to today.  Instead of creating new movies, in the past year or two, Disney has recreated their most popular classic movies in 3D.

The recreations began on September 16, 2011 with the release of the Lion King in 3D, and continued with the release of Beauty and the Beast on January 13, 2012.  Do the classic movies in 3D make them more enjoyable?

Based on the box office reports, viewers did not find the movies more enjoyable.  Lion King in 3D made less than one third the amount made in 1994 at the original release.  A lot of people find the 3D movies to be overwhelming and cause a headache.

I do not think the movies are any better in 3D, I just think it is a great experience to see the classic movies on the big screen.  Other students, like senior Michaela Connors said, “I loved Lion King in 3D because when the monkey raised little Simba I felt like I could touch him.”

There is a certain experience that you can only get in a 3D movie.  Connors also stated, “The fighting scenes terrified me and made me feel like I was going to get clawed in the face.”

Everyone has their own idea of a great movie experience, and apparently Disney thinks the 3D movies are a common desired experience.  There are plans to release Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., and The Little Mermaid in 3D by the end of 2013.
