Perched up on display in the library are 13 pieces of art created by the Art Club members.  These works of art were created when Mrs. Doyle’s art club was studying Impressionism.  Impressionism was a 19th century art movement started in France by Paris-based artists.  Impressionism focuses on the bright colors of a scene or an object.

Impressionism, as a new type of art, separated itself from the cliché art of the day.  The Art Club members learned how to create a beautiful relationship between light and color with these paintings.  By using simple dabs and gentle strokes, the artist creates a blurry view that literally looks like a quick impression.  This simplistic more colorful version of reality began to win the favor of artists and critics alike.

Junior Shelby Moser painted an impression of ballerinas.  Shelby was inspired by another artist and wished to capture the movements of the skirt.  Safe to say she achieved. “Impressionism was out of my comfort zone.  It was a lot of fun and challenging,” said Shelby.  She had to paint with her fingers and expand on new ideas. “I loved it.”

Senior Kelsi Adams, inspired by her love for music, painted the impression of a cello because she “wanted something different.” Kelsi said, “Impressionism is such a beautiful nonrealistic style of painting, allowing freedom of the artist.”

All 13 Art Club students did a very impressive job on their paintings.  The art work is in the library so be sure to check it out, and have a lasting impression left on you.
